Welcome to the Stop Pressure Ulcers course.
This training is designed to give you the knowledge and tools to recognize, prevent, and manage pressure ulcers in daily practice.
What pressure ulcers are and how they develop through pressure and shear.
Who is at risk – including high-risk groups such as elderly, bedridden, underweight, overweight, or critically ill patients.
Where ulcers occur most often – the body’s pressure-prone areas like the sacrum, heels, and ischial tuberosities.
How to identify early signs of skin damage and categorize pressure ulcers (stages 1–4, plus unstageable ulcers and suspected deep tissue injury).
The Braden Scale – how to assess and score risk factors.
Evidence-based prevention methods, including:
The HUSKE checklist (Skin, Support surface, Repositioning, Nutrition, Engage)
The Care Bundle approach – combining multiple interventions for better outcomes
Optimal positioning techniques: supine, side-lying (30°), prone, sitting, Half Charlie, and LiN (Positioning in Neutral)
The use of Turn All and pressure-relieving cushions and mattresses
Pressure ulcers are not just painful and harmful to patients – they are also preventable with the right knowledge and routines. Prevention saves time, reduces complications, and improves overall quality of care.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Carry out risk assessments confidently
Apply practical interventions for prevention and care
Engage patients and relatives in the prevention process
Use positioning systems and support surfaces effectively to improve outcomes
Let’s get started on building the skills to Stop Pressure Ulcers – together!
